Past Projects Creating Backyard Habitats It has always been the goal of the Appoquinimink River Association (ARA) to show residents of the watershed that making a difference can start in your own backyard, literally. By making the connection between home and garden land use practices and water quality, individuals understand their impact on local waterways and habitat. Thus, the ARA with the help of the Delaware Nature Society recruited forty interested watershed households to take part in the Backyard Habitats program. Participation in this program certified homeowners’ properties as backyard wildlife habitats by providing food, water, cover, and places to raise young.
